Family Bug Out Bags

Family Bug Out Bags – Bug Out Essentials Quick Start Checklist

Its been my experience, which pales in the comparison to the seasoned preppers. What I learned about backpacking came from my short stint in the Army. The most important thing I can pass along is, when you choose your survival backpack, get the one that fits.

Especially when your choosing for family members! Its very important to get the right Family Bug Out Bag for each member.

In a Hurry? The Guardian 3day survival kit fits well and priced good.

In my household these day’s it’s just my wife and I. So our backpacks are packed and in a closet close to the door for easy access. They are both ready to go with at least 3 days supplies. You need to have all your gear together and ready to go, in one central location.

And for your family there’s two very good reasons for this.

  1. If any kind of disaster or emergency comes, family members know where to get their 3 day bug out bag supplies.
  2. If the disaster forces you to leave because your house is unstable to live in. Then you can quickly grab your bags and get out and go.

In any case you do want good quality go bags (backpacks), with plenty compartments keeping things organized.

Family Bug Out Bag Checklist

Keep in mind every member of your family needs their very own backpack. And since you have kids it would be a good idea to have their names on each of their bags. Because you just can’t carry everything for everyone, in just one or two bags.

And while we’re on this subject… Do you have infants and/or toddlers? Well then, they need go bags of their very own. Since they can’t carry what they need themselves you and/or one of the teenagers in the family will have to carry these.

In a Hurry? Complete 3day bug out bag thats priced cheap.

The bigger kids as I said can each carry their own bags. Being in charge of their own gear and provisions will help them feel safer and more engaged in the process. I can’t prove this but I think it might just help keep their spirits up as well.

Idea! Keep all your bags the same color. And have none the color of their school bags.

My wife and I do this. It really helps us locate one another in a crowd. In a family of 4 to 6 members, I think you’ll find it easier to find everyone if your in a crowd of people. Just look for the color of your bags and count heads.

Below are some things you might consider having in the kids backpacks.

These are just some of the basics to have. You get the point, each child’s bag should contain their own needs. Keep in mind the backpack weight needs to be lighten for each person, and still carry what you need. You just can’t carry it all!

Include Some Comfort Items:

  • Trail Mix
  • Gum
  • Hard Candy
  • Small packs of energy drinks
    and so on.

An emergency situation is stressful for the kids as well. Including some of these items will help comfort them and also give them a sense of control.

Bug Out Bag Size – Matters to Everyone Including Kidos

These backpacks will vary in size and weight. You can purchase these bags so they fit right for each child up to adults. Obviously not everyone is the same size so you’d want backpacks that say their adjustable.

Here are some Children’s Back Sizes by Age

You’ll likely find backpacks with adjustable frames both external and internal. These would be more suited for teenagers then they would for younger children, because of the added weight. For the smaller kids your gonna want a more light weight bag.

Also keep in mind you might want backpacks that are waterproof.

I have seen survival backpacks for kids that are smaller than the adult bags. Whats good about this is they usually have added pockets. With extra pockets they can reach, the children won’t have to stop and take the bag off to get something.

Extra Bug Out Bag Gear – For Kidos

These bags come with a lot of different options for the bag, you can pick from. Thats good for the adults but the children need some of their items in their bags. Everyone has an opinion and I do as well.

I believe some of the items below is worth noting for the child’s comfort. This is just a few options to look at:

  • Tablet to play games on
  • Small light weight toys/just a couple
  • Stuffed bear or doll
  • Nerf football
  • Small board game

Just a few of these toys and some candy and salty treats will go a long way in keeping your children calm in a bug out situation. And thats a good thing!

But as I mentioned earlier about waterproof backpacks. Some of these bags are made with a high-tech-polyester. They will keep your contents dry and usually pretty comfortable due to the extra padding.

If your walking any distance, comfort from the extra padding is a thing. So is keeping the contents in the bag dry as possible.

In a Hurry? Guardian Elite Survival Kit, good quality for the cost.

Maybe the child’s bag needs to carry just a tad bit more. (without hurting them) Then maybe you can look at a bag that’s expandable. Of course thats totally up to you.

The main take away for this is have everything done and ready to go, in a moments noticed. So Get Good Survival Backpacks. With just a few added comforts for the kids and you, will make all the difference in your family bug out bags.

Must Have Items For Bug Out Bags – If Comfort Matters!

These backpacks can get rather heavy, not to mention cumbersome. I found out the hard way that you can’t put everything you always need in them. It was also frustrating for me, fighting to keep the straps on my shoulders the whole hike.

Then not having everything I needed when I got there. That was a rude awakening and very uncomfortable, not to mention a sleepless night and little water to drink. I solved those problems before the next walk about.

Below are tools/items to make it easier. In my opinion they are must have tools in your bug out essentials.
